What is a good quality pair of wireless headphones?

What attributes of a pair of headphones affect the quality of it handling mid-range and high-range frequencies?

  • In other words, when a pair of headphones is said to perfectly handle mid-range and high-range frequencies very well, what does that mean?

  • Answer:

I think that the more objective (for audiophiles, who are notoriously subjective) qualities, like realism (for the mids) and clarity without sharpness (for the highs) are important, but also the less quantifiable qualities like lushness in the mids, and the effect that the treble has on the soundstage are very important. It's very hard to quantify these attributes, especially the midrange qualities. As far as the effects of engineering on those headphones, the most realistic headphones, and the ones with the best soundstage are open. I'm not a sound engineer, but as far as mids and highs go, look at the sennheiser hd 598, and the grado 225i. The highs and mids are very susceptible to change from a dac/amp, so if you are looking to get some of these headphones, get a dac and an amp.

Mid frequencies and tops are generally where all the melodies sit.. upwards of 700hz? This is where the piano, strings, vocals and lead synth will sit.. If the headphones are too toppy then they'll tire your ears listening for too long.. but mid and tops are the 'crispness/detail' are..
