Why would my iPhone launch a bunch of apps in the middle of the night, including turning on the LED? Is it possessed by demons?
-
This has happened before. Once the iPhone woke me up with Daily Show videos at 2 am. It is in a Mophie battery case and I plug the case in overnight. Last night I had made a point of force-closing all my apps before I went to sleep, but when I woke up, in addition to the LED, at least seven or eight apps were open. Is my iPhone possessed by demons?

Answer:
Searching support forums suggests that this problem is not unprecedented, and in several cases was eventually blamed on faulty touch screens which for whatever reasons registered random touches in the middle of the night, causing apps to open, close, move, etc. I'm not knowledgeable about hardware engineering, but it's possible that there is some interference or "spooky action" occurring from the interplay between the Morphie and the iPhone, or perhaps only when they're charging; maybe âand this is utter speculationâ the field created by the charging current increases the error-rate of the slightly-defective touchscreen, which begins to pick up lots of inputs and wreaks havoc with the phone accordingly. Everything you've described could be accounted for by this explanation: random inputs can trigger the "move icons" state in iOS, and can certainly launch apps or trigger the flashlight in Control Center. If this is the case, you may need to replace the phone (which sounds like it has a defective touchscreen, though only problematic during charging), the Morphie, or both. My next steps would be: See if the iPhone does this stuff without the Morphie (I can't find anyone complaining online about weird behavior due to Morphie, incidentally) If it does or if the Morphie is a necessity, contact Apple for a replacement; you may need to visit a store, but they should help given that it's a defect in the screen If it doesn't, consider charging them separately overnight, not using the Morphie (obviously that's not ideal), or replacing the Morphie to see if it's defective If you don't use the iPhone as an alarm clock, you can also turn the device off overnight; that should render the entire thing moot. If it turns itself on in the middle of the night to act funny, you can be assured that it's not the touchscreen and that help from someone with a different kind of collar than mine may be in order. Good luck!

I've seen similar situations with my iPhone 5, it has to do with faulty charger. Try to charge it without the battery case, or try a different charger.
