How do I use dual monitors in Windows 7?

I have an M4500 Dell and I have a dock station hooked up to two monitors. I use CAD and have lots of windows open. One monitor flickers. Am I using a lot of overhead with the GPU?

  • Answer:

I have also observed what I am sure is this same "monitor flicker" on the two flat panel monitors attached to my Dell M4600 docking station. This happens when the GPU is being exercised "significantly." In my case, the BOINC-managed applications that leverage the nVidia GPU via OPENCL and CUDA software seem to always elicit this behavior when running, but I have seen it with other GPU-intensive applications. I have no firm technical data, but observation suggests that this is happening when more "graphics memory" is being used by such applications than is actually present in the graphics adapter hardware (thus, in effect, "spilling over" into RAM). I can make it stop simply by selecting (in BOINC) "Snooze GPU."
