Why doesn't Gmail's *search box* autocomplete list people instead of email addresses?
-
When I search Gmail for a person, I am usually looking for recent messages from that person. However, many of my friends use multiple email addresses for various reasons, and Gmail's search autocomplete lists each email address separately. Is there a setting somewhere to autocomplete the search box with names instead of email addresses?

Answer:
If you create a contact (there are options to do it in each message), you can list multiple email addresses for a person. Gmail probably doesn't combine them automatically because if you had two people named John Smith email you, you'd want to choose which one to email. Also, it has no idea which address it should email at that particular time. You don't want to send a personal email to your friends' work address.
