I am travelling to the UK on a 3-year work visa. What are the things I should be aware of as a first-time international traveller from India to travel and settle in the UK?

Answer:
While travelling you should have Certificate of Sponsorship Details, Onsite joining letter, VAF9 (Tier2) form duly filled, TB report and obviously passport. You should take another ID card with you (e.g. Aadhar Card / Voter Card / Driving License) for you benefit. If you want to stay for long in UK then you have to register http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Health_Service_(England).
