How long does it take to become an actuary?

How long does it take to become a fully qualified actuary in South Africa?

  • Answer:

Well that honestly depends on how willing you are to work really really hard and resist the monetary temptation. Some people take a minimum of 4 years, I think on average it takes 7 to 9 years to qualify. You see as i mentioned before, the other factor is how generous the firm you work for before qualifying is with regards to study leave. Most firms don't really want actuaries to qualify. Something to do with them becoming more/less risk averse. But 8 years on average.
