What are the advantages of blogging on Quora as compared to other blogging websites?
-
Reach of content has been a concern on Quora as I have not been satisfied with the effectiveness of the promotion feature. I intend to start a technical blog and some of the criteria Im considering for my choice of the blogging platform are : Reach within the platform. Reach outside the platform, from search engines. Availability of experts to give valuable feedback.

There are a number of unique advantages to using Quora as a blogging platform: Ability to integrate your Quora answers into your Quora blog. This is insanely valuable for me. None of my Quora answers end up on my Wordpress blog. Thus, I have 4-5x the content on Quora that I do on my Wordpress blog. It's thus 10x-50x better. Upvotes and chance to get new viewers. Upvotes work. If you get them on Quora, people will see your blog. You can't create this viewer loop on Wordpress. You can see 63,349 Views on the Blog post below. All of them are readers / viewers I'd be unlikely to get otherwise. Comments rock. The comments on Quora are really terrific, from real, verified users, with great thoughts. 10x better than I've seen otherwise. Different readers. The readers I have on Quora are different people, for the most part, than read my standalone blog. That alone is a force multiplier right there. However, it's too immature & I fear Quora isn't really investing in it: No way to schedule posts. This rules it out as a real blogging platform right there. Confusion about when registration is required to view. I get confused when people have to register to view or not. It's OK for answers I guess, but problematic for a blog. Design is too basic. You don't need much more (see, e.g. Medium). But Quora Blogs are all as basic as Quora itself. Makes sense. But it makes it impossible for your blog to stand out visually, and thereby, give a sense of itself. A Quora blog looks like a piece of Quora. Not a Piece of You. Social is a mixed bag. If Quora allowed you to really post back to Wordpress, vs. just a snippet ... then you could use Quora as a primary blog and authoring vehicle, and send content back to Wordpress. Right now, no one with a serious Wordpress following can migrate to Quora in any fashion. Not many subscribers, doesn't make it obvious / simple / nudgy to subscribe. I don't know why I have such a low subscriber count on my Quora blog, but it's very small compared to Quora views and subscribers to my Wordpress blog. This is a bummer. Quora doesn't ask you to subscribe to a blog with the same nudges that Wordpress automatically does. Overall, as you can see below, the View counts are solid.

Getting a random person to read a WordPress is hard. Quora makes content discovery easy. Blogging on Quora allows for the strongest synergy between a blog and semi-random Internet browsing. I explore niche topics on Quora that Facebook and Google would not be able to predict my visitation of. This means that Quora provides the quickest turnaround between the time I give the market information about my new interest, and the time I am connected with people based on that new interest. This is relevant, because blogs are super long-tailed and niche, and so building a recommender system for them can be tough.

NONE Blogging on Quora is terrible. The content is no longer yours and becomes theirs, unlike Tumblr which respects your content as your own. VS Quora pushes people to other peoples blogs after they read your blog. It will only get worse when Quora finally unleashes advertising. But to answer you in context, there is one advantage to Quora blogs. They help reach more people. So just think of it as an added boost. Use it to help build your audience. But push them off of Quora with teasers to visit your site. Also, there is pretty good peer review if you have a circle of users that can give you feedback if you are just getting started. .
