How does search in Google books work?
-
In Google books you can't select content with your mouse. But you can search for keywords which the search engines then highlight. So the client can not select content, but the search engine can. How does that work? example: http://books.google.com/ebooks/reader?id=ey8EAAAAQAAJ&printsec=frontcover&output=reader&pg=GBS.PA3

Answer:
Although I am not completely sure, the css and js files indicate that the 'user-select' property [1] is used. By using this property on the pages of the book, the content of those pages cannot be selected by the user. [1] http://www.w3.org/TR/2000/WD-css3-userint-20000216#user-select
