What can I do to treat my lower back pain due to a jerk in the gym on the squat rack? I want to start gymming again.
-
I was doing squats, the rod along with the weights together weighed 30 kgs. I jerked my back by sudden backward bending (the rod wasn't hooked while i thought it was). I was on bed rest for 10 days, the pain wasn't excruciating but just to be safe and comply with the doctor i did that. The x-ray report was normal. I still have the pain, i am doing some exercises the physiotherapist asked me to but the pain still persists. I want to start gymming again.

Answer:
1. Use a support belt 2. Do all the exercises your physio tells you to do. 3. Gradually start doing back weight bearing exercises like squats with minimal weight. Just use a rod with no weights, if and only if, its bearable. 4. Whenever, studying or working, try to stay flat against the back of the chair, a good posture post trauma can also help (heard from a physio). 5. Read this post sometime from now and feel good that your pain is gone !

I've heard it said many times that most of us will have lower back pain sometime in our life. In most cases it goes away within two weeks. You definitely want to take it easy while you recuperate. Sometimes you just have to let your body heal. When you are pain free take it easy and add weight gradually. I don't understand your description of how the accident occurred i.e. the rod wasn't hooked, backward bending, etc.) That's why my advice is pretty generic. Good luck with your recovery.

I am not a doctor, but, back pain does not heal fast, as it is weight bearing. Please continue the exercises told by your physiotherapist religiously, the pain will subside. Any workout in gym (biceps, triceps, chest, shoulder, thighs etc) affects one's back directly or indirectly, I think you must not work out until the pain subsides. Once the pain subsides, you can start working out slowly, with a back support belt. My advice to you is to be patient. Be Safe than Sorry :-)

Do not start the workouts until the pain disappears completely. Meanwhile, do some non-impact sport like swimming or cycling to keep yourself fit. In future, please use belts and pay attention to your form. Good luck :-)

I would first suggest going to see your doctor again to see what he suggests you do as next steps. Have you tried moderate medication? I would suggest something very moderately invasive such as pain relievers. Those should ease the pain and hopefully allow you to continue your exercises without as much pain to help your body and back get back to normal. Physical thereapy is another option! After you try those two, if the a pain still persists, then I would talk to your doctor about other more ellaborate forms of treatment. This website gives you a few more examples of different treatments: http://www.parrishmed.com/programs-services/parrish-medical-center/orthopedic-programs/spine-care/default.aspx Hope your back feels better asap!

#1. Use Back brace for a week. #2. Minimal weights for time being. #3. (My favorite) There is always a bakery near..pastries, donuts assuage them quickly..Shoo Shoo type..! :P

First listen to your physician and cure that back pain. It is important to cure it otherwise it may injured you for rest of your life. Don't get emotional and excited about going to gym and all. As far as squats and deadlifts you need a strong core or abdominal area. So first focus on strengthening your core which will strengthen you back and you will be back on track. Fit and fine ready to go to the gym! Strong back and core help you to lift more and correct form and technique is also important. So take care!

Rest and do not not restart your workout until you have complete relief. Consult your doctor again - you maybe prescribed some medicines.
