What can you use to access your files on a computer remotely using an Android device?
-
You should be able to browse to the files in a file manager type thing and just open audio and video files and copy files and folders to your android device. And it should be not just for accessing in the local network but through the internet like at public wifi at starbucks.

Answer:
ES File Explorer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop So far this is the best one I have tried, works more or less flawlessly. Features integrated media player, integrated disk space usage checker, integrated app manager, cloud services support, FTP support, Windows shares support, Bluetooth OBEX support, support for rooted devices... and more. Best of all? It is free and has no ads! (that last part is important for me) I have also tried and liked the two-pane file managers Ghost Commander and Total Commander, but they have the flaw of aborting your network file copy or move if your connection is the least bit spotty, and Ghost Commander can crash completely if you transfer large files. For a long list of others I have tried, they all seemed to have some fatal flaw or too many bugs or too obtrusive ads. Edit: To access your own computer from the Internet you can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamviewer.teamviewer.market.mobile, it supports transferring files as well. If you want to connect to your entire home network from the internet, Android has built-in support for VPN, but your router must also support VPN, and be configured for it to work, here are some helpful links: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/smartphones/connect-to-a-pptp-vpn-from-your-android-phone/2145/ http://www.thegreenbow.com/doc/D-Link-Broadband-VPN-Router-DIR130-Application-Note-V1.00.pdf http://www.draytek.com/.upload/pdffiles/18405d968d8db812e33c4458194051ca.pdf http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=385 http://kb.zyxel.com/KB/searchArticle!viewDetail.action?articleOid=013338&lang=EN
