Which has better scope IT or electronic and Telecommunication?

What is the future scope of MS in Telecommunication Engg. in USA? Is VLSI a better line to choose?

  • Answer:

Generally VLSI will pay you more in terms of money but you'll work more hard to learn the in-depth concepts in VLSI. To come successfully you'll need to have hands on with VHDL ,Verilog ,RTL , physical design tools such as Tanner and various EDA(Electronic Design Automation) softwares.Additional knowledge on various processor architectures , memory architectures,GPUs,pipelining, etc., will help you to land in top semiconductor companies like Intel , Qualcomm ,NVIDIA ,AMD ,Broadcom paying you about $100k / year as a fresher.Learning VLSI is pretty hard and can be bit daunting. Telecommunications can't fetch you salaries like VLSI but things can be pretty simpler.RF engineering , Routers ,Switches,BGP,OSPF,MPLS,TCP etc., are the things you'll learn in Telecommunications. You get to work with Cisco,Juniper,Ericsson,Sprint,Verizon etc., Good opportunities in R&D are available at Qualcomm,Broadcom (Requires a mix of VLSI and RF,knowledge of RF SoC,etc is required) Salaries can be anywhere between $ 50k to $80k. But my advice would be follow your interest and do what you love the most.Money is not everything ! !
