Answer:
Well, there's the hard reality that despite our own refusal to accept it, we are racist in so many ways. Our fascination with fairer beauties is a part of that sad fixation. As far as using foreign imports in Bollywood goes, I think it lends a universality to a film. The general public would be keen to go see a movie starring a French model speaking in broken Hindi, even out of mere curiosity rather than see one starring a TV actress. For many, a foreign import means a bigger film.

Original Question:Bollywood: Why is that getting foreign actress in Indian Cinemas (Bollywood) considered as hot\excellent? Is there no Indian model who can replace those Brit artists/german-russian actress? Or Non Indian nationals having Indian parents seek such industry to be profitable? Indian obsession with White Skin is legendary. So, one should not be surprised at the influx of fair maidens in our Hindi Film Industry. Also, the general perception amongst Indian Male's, and to some extent even Indian women is that White Women are easy and therefore, stereotyping as skin clad danseuse's & bikini clad sex sirens is pandering to that perception. Also, these White long legged lasses offer more value for money then their Indian counterparts. For most parts these girls come from Countries that were once part of erstwhile Soviet Union, where opportunities for women are far & in-between unless, they want to take up prostitution. As for non-Indian, non-actor's like Katrina Kaif's, Lisa Hayden's & Evelyn Sharma's stand ZERO chance in the highly competitive Hollywood, but in Bollywood their western attitude & mannerism infuse a pseudo-upmarket aura to a film project. Also, these actress are more than willing to do bold scenes, and don't shy away from showing-off maximum real-estate. Of course, these days, desi girls have upped their game in matching these IMPORTED girls in going bold. So, as long as our fascination for GORI CHAMDI remains, we will see more & more imported dolls adorning our films, and more & more non-Indians (with part Indian ethnicity) making headway into our television & movie screens.

Fair skin, curiosity etc. are all contributing factors. Yes, Indians generally associate beauty to fair skin. But hey, its not just India. The children's classic is "Snow white" and not "lignite black". Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the darkest of them all ???? People generally tend to associate white with goodness and dark with evil. In biological perspective, having a darker skin tone may protect from few diseases so it should be considered as an advantage. But people ! I have a black cat and a white cat and one half black - half white. I love all the three equally :)

Speaking from personal experience, I can vouch for what almost everyone else is saying here-Indians have a fixation with fair skin. Plain and simple, that is the truth. No amount of intelligent debates or logic can erase this and I fear this will go on till the end of time. Growing up as a dusky skin colored girl,I have myself felt the humiliation so many times. Even when I was in school, so many people passed comments on my skin color and my 'inability' to find a 'good husband' when I grew up! Thank God my parents never made me feel inferior. Even in college,I was once or twice given free advice of using fairness creams to become 'beautiful like Kareena Kapoor'. I remember going to my mother's village and all old village ladies and aunties would talk about us as 'look look these people have come from big city where hindi movies are made, have you seen those white girls? How beautiful are they? Have you seen Hema Malini? Does she look like an angel even in person? Have you met Madhuri Dixit? Is her skin as white as milk cream?' I am not kidding, the fascination for white skin knows no bounds! I have seen people spend so much time and money using all kinds of fairness creams despite them making no difference, I have seen people using Lux soap that is advertised for by all filmstars in the hope that 'using it will make as beautiful and white as them!', open any matrimonial column and even today, with all our talk of intellectualism and education and progressiveness the first thing you will always notice is 'Wanted fair, tall, educated girl' no matter how black, fat or uneducated the guy might be! Not to say that all guys are black or fat or uneducated, but the thing is,everyone wants a girl like Aishwarya Rai or Kareena Kapoor even if the guy looks like Rajnikant or Johnny Lever! God has made us what we look like,so why do we judge each other on our looks? But we do,don't we? We always do. And in India, the whiter you are,the better you are. And especially in Bollywood where looks are 90% important, talent is only 10%, it is not difficult to understand that white girls from abroad are so much in demand as models/actresses.

Because there aren't enough white people in our country, and those who consider themselves "fair" are not white enough. I often cross with a lot of people (male and female) who have lighter skin, and like to boast about their Aryan heritage, Kashmiri origins and so on, or just spend lots of rupees - and I really mean that - with bleaching creams, thinking they will become Americans/Europeans overnight. I won't say that our society doesn't hold any fault on it, since it is a known fact that, in India, less melanin can get you friends, a job, a girlfriend, and a lot more. Most of those who like claiming to be a "White Indian" - it is nauseating how some richies brag, after traveling somewhere abroad, that someone has "mistaken" them for an Italian, or a Frenchman or even a Russian - seem to be unaware about the standards of whiteness in the West, and how ridiculous and self-degrading they sound when they are claiming to be white, but I think that, for a good chunk of our audience, it has become pretty clear that people like Vivek Oberoi and Gaurav Chanana are NOT white enough. Public wants fairness, fairness, and more fairness, and with the lots of money that Bollywood makes, that would be a really small effort to hire minor Russian, Ukrainian, British, French, Polish, Czech, Italian, American, Brazilian, Australian or whatever nationality actresses/models to serve as stars on movies directed to people who insanely crave for the act of dreaming of and desiring their white beauty. The crowd demands it: Whiteness, whiteness, whiteness, and as long as they have it, cash will be flocking in. Basically, this country's obsession with fair skin, our inferiority complex and colonial hangover, have reached a point that is really insane - for the World it is pitiful, for the West it is pathetic, and for me, it is embarassing.

We have a white skin fetish which the film industry aggravates by bringing these foreign models to our item numbers.
