How do I disable certain file formats in Photoshop?
-
In Photoshop there are way too many file formats to choose from in the Save dialog. Most of which I know I will never use. How would one disable those formats?

Answer:
I also had the wish to disable some file formats which i never used since Photoshop version 2.5. Targa and others i never used and probably never will. The best way from my point of view would be to just being able to disable these unwanted file formats in a new "Save-Dialogue-Preference" of PS. Just unclick "Targa" and all these other formats and every user would be happy with his own set of formats. Or maybe just being able to change the order of their appearance should be enough? And if i would need one of these once in a year i could just reselect it and it will work again (maybe after a restart of PS, ok) Maybe it should be filed as feature request? Will look into this later. Peter

Like Dee, I've never bothered to disable file formats in PSâ¦and usually add a fewâ¦Instead of disabling them, perhaps a better strategy would be looking into and understanding what these other formats are and how they may be useful to you in the future⦠however, to answer your question how to disable certain file formats in PS : Inside your PS CSx folder> Plug-ins>File Formats you should find a few less common file formats. You can drag any/all of these out of the plug-ins folder then restart PS to disable. In the past you could also add a ¬ symbol in front of the file name to disable⦠not sure if that still works anymore. Good luck

Just don't use them, why disable? Why care to disable? Just because you won't use them today, the next time you get a new version of Photoshop, they'll be there again. I've been using Photoshop since version 1, and teaching it since version 5, can't say it takes me any more time to choose Photoshop as my format or PDF than anything else. Meaning, never felt the list inhibited me from making the choose I wanted.

I want this feature to, or at least i want PNG to be the first option when i hit the letter p in the file extensions, instead of having to press it 8 times before i land on png. But I guess making an Action that saves in the file formats you use is the best solution..
