How to set up Blackberry Data Service?

Why do mobile phone operators charge more for BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) than they do for competing data plans for Android and iPhone?

  • Verizon Wireless in the US at least appears to charge $45 / month, in contrast with $29.99 / month for a "standard" data plan.  Do other carriers also charge more for BES?  Why, and how do they get away with it when more and more businesses are leveraging Android and iPhone for business purposes?

  • Answer:

Reasons I can think of: RIM gets a share of the Blackberry/BES monthly charge, but doesn't on a standard data plan so operator charges more to make up for that Most BES data plans are paid for/reimbursed by companies and they can afford to pay more and aren't as price sensitive as consumers Perhaps a higher level of support offered to a BES/corporate user

From what I heard there is a a BB Service Access Fee which they charge to operator. Operators put up a mark up over this and charge for a bundled price. Price is what a consumer is willing to pay and in case of enterprise the willingness is more as till very recently there were very few options.
