What impact will free Facebook credits have on social game developers?

• I assume that all Facebook users have received between 15 to 25 Facebook Credits by now. At $0.1 per FC for an average of 20 FC received by every Facebook users, that's a whopping $1 billion distributed in the wild by Facebook... Since no one is making any money from this, neither Facebook nor the game developers, I guess it is up to the game developers to absorb this cost... $1 billion folks !!

  No impact whatsoever. Don't get me wrong: We had exactly the same questions (and frustrations) when we found out about the free Facebook Credits that Facebook hands out. It's essentially marketing their payment system by giving away OUR work for free. Now that we've been working with Facebook Credits for a couple of months, though, the effect is negligible. On a (very) bad day 0,5 percent of our credit volume comes from the free credits Facebook hands out. I have to point out that this has been (much) higher in the first couple of days we started using Facebook Credits, though: We saw that our existing playerbase had these free FBC in their profile with nothing to spend them on until we started accepting it as a payment method, so on day one we had a whopping 22,8 percent free Credits. This dropped off to a little over 10 percent on the second day, a little over 6 percent on the third day and by the 7th day we were seeing under 1 percent.
