Why Internet Speed Is Slow In India?

How bad is 256 Kbps internet broadband speed in India?

  • At what speed will I be able to download? I'm planning to get BB Home ULD 525. 512 Kbps upto 4 GB, 256 Kbps beyond 4 GB ; Unlimited Download/Uploads. http://www.bsnlteleservices.com/2012/07/bsnl-unlimited-broadband-internet-home_02.html

  • Answer:

Well, since you're bothered about the 256 Kbps speed, I'm assuming your download needs will be more than 4 GB per month. In that case, you should probably go for a better plan. As someone has said below, you'll get a speed of around 30 kilobytes per second. The service is reasonably good: you get the same speed except during the very peak hours. There are rarely connection problems, and complaints if any are taken care of speedily. For normal browsing (email, blogs, Quora, FB) you won't even realize the difference. However, streaming videos can be a pain (though 240p on YouTube seems to buffer fast enough for you to watch the video without interruptions).

256 Kbps internet connection is just fine connection for browsing. If you are talking about downloading speed, then it varies according to the medium you are using for downloading. Like at torrent the speed is 1/8th of maximum speed i.e in your case it shall be 32 kbps. If you are using IDM then speed shall be around 50 Kbps. If you want to use internet just for downloading purpose, I shall suggest that please go for a plan that boast downloading speed around 1 MBPS or at 512 KBPS.  Besides the speed also depends upon the telephone line that is coming to your locality. You take a higher plan, but telephone connections are all messed up, it will result in loss of data, and thus lower speed. So first check out how the connection is working in your locality, with the persons who are already using it.

the plan u talked about is good ,but not great.. it will give a speed range 18–30KBpswhich means 1 mb in 1 min…… a 720p movie will take around 8–10 hrs …..Bonafied i have also used this, but now using Rs750 plan of BSNL BB ULD..give speed in range of 80–360KBps…….
