How can I pitch an idea to Yahoo or Google?

How do I pitch an idea to Google to improve their user experience of their search function?

  • Right now I don't mean the question from a start-up pitch perspective. I would just like to send my message across effectively. What would be the most effective way to do so?

  • Answer:

Honestly? Mock it up, write a blog post detailing the idea, and share it on Twitter, Hacker News and Reddit. If it gets traction they'll see it, and they'll pay more attention than if you try to email Google UX designers, suggesting to them how to do their job.

You could use also http://www.google.com/tools/feedback/intl/en/, which allows you to highlight exactly what you to want to give feedback on (e.g. the search bar, etc) and send feedback. Be aware, however, that Google serves well over a billion users, and your feedback will be aggregated automatically, so the odds of it being read individually would probably be pretty low. As mentioned, you would probably need to get some traction through some other public outlet for your individual idea to be noticed.
