How To Find Connections Between People?

How can you see connections between two people on Facebook?

  • Is there software that can compare one persons connections to someone else. For example, if you enter both of their facebook URLs, and the software can find how those two people might be conected to each other in varying degrees or compare and analyze similar hobbies, places lived, etc?

    This is possible, Facebook even provides you with this feature: http://www.facebook.com /profile.php?id=[enter facebook id]&and=[enter another facebook id] You can see similar likes, hobbies, wall posts to each other and so on. You should however be friends with both of the people you are trying to view. Have fun!

I really liked Bart K's answer (although I have not verified it).  I just wanted to add that permissions in facebook do make a difference.  That being said, the facebook API connects people together, so developers can create their own social graphs and if they use oauth to authenticate you, they can easily show you all your friends and probably create a social graph for you.  In other words, 7 degrees to Kevin Bacon is theoretically possible using developer tools for facebook.  In other words if you trust a developer offering a tool that does this, you may be able to get more information about who knows who by authenticating to their service.
