Has anyone had or is anyone having rotator cuff surgery?

Has anyone ever had an interscalene nerve block before rotator cuff surgery? Is it painful? How do they do it?

  • Answer:

Interscalene nerve block refers to the technique of anesthetizing the roots or trunks of the brachial plexus in the neck between the anterior and middle scalene muscles. It is typically performed to provide anesthesia or analgesia for surgery of the shoulder and upper arm. A needle is inserted into the scalene groove between the anterior and middle scalene muscles. To avoid a painful experience, lidocaine is often used before inserting the needle for the interscalene nerve block.

Other answers

Many, many people have had interscalene nerve blocks. I have not personally had one but I administer them frequently. While it might sound terrible, people usually have very little discomfort during the procedure. It is very useful in controlling pain after shoulde surgery.
