Which one is better: put the questions of customer satisfaction online survey directly into email or a link into email to the online survey?

    Depends on your end goal as well as the number of responses you expect to get. Just want to ask a dozen people a couple of questions? Directly in email will probably work just fine. But more than that and a hosted online survey will probably suite you better. The most important reason being that you'll be able to understand your data more easily instead of sifting through a bunch of emails.

This is a great question, and one we hear more frequently than you would think. While my personal feeling is it's significantly better to include a link to the survey in the email rather than pasting the questions, there are a few major reasons why it's better. The biggest being the fact that you can't use logic within an email. A great example is if you ask how satisfied the customer is, and they say they're not. Most of the time you want to ask why, if you put the questions directly into the email, you cant customize what questions they are asked based on their answers. In other words, you lose the opportunity to gain additional insight into why they're not satisfied. Customizing the survey and ensuring it's relevant to each respondent is one of the most important parts to survey design and high response rates. You're also limited in the question types you're able to use within an email, and enforcing rules (select up to X responses) is impossible, which means your data can't be reliably collected by whatever posting system you're using. You can't use interactive question types, such as drag and drop rank orders, which make the experience of completing the survey much more engaging (again increasing response rates). It depends on number of people taking survey. If you are doing it for small family gathering, its okay to ask questions directly via email. However, if you are doing it for any other reason, you better stick with Online survey.
