Answer:
It is weird that two people asked me to answer considering that I have never met the guy... Still I'd like to recommend a documentary about him. Something that will tell you about Putin a bit (that's as far as I can go + my own research, I love his personality, for me he is a target to study. Please understand that I don't admire him, he is just a good example as a research target for me. I like to study how powerhouses are constructed and the personalities of people who sit at the top). So, movie number 1: So who is Mr. Putin? HE IS A SPY! That's REALLY everything you need to know to understand his mind set. He came to the KGB at the age of 16 (something like a CIA or FBI in USA) and said: I want to work for you. They answered him: We decide who works for us; however, they advised him to study law and languages (which he did). In 1975 the KGB hires him. What I know FOR SURE (because he said so in the interview): he underwent spy training. Did he talk about it specifically? No, of course not, you can't talk about it. He did say "I know Saint-Petersburg very well, we did a training in here, part of which was surveying the city." So what?" you might say. But there is a book by one of the top spies in ex-soviet union called http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Aquarium-The-Making-Soviet/dp/0026154900. It is written by a person who did a similar training to Putin's training (city surveying was a core training for spies) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Suvorov, although Viktor went to to GRU instead - a secret intelligence unit, where the life expectancy of agents wasn't too long (because they either been killed by their own or died on the mission, it was an incredibly dangerous organization to work for, they were joking that everyone who enters GRU dies in the end). GRU was easily one of the top spy generating machines in the world (because the agents knew so much of top secret information, no one was really against if agents died, since the secrets are best kept by the dead). Viktor described the training they underwent in great detail and it was party like Putin described his. So we can make a clear deduction - Putin is a trained spy, which means he is an incredibly smart and hardworking person, others simply didn't make it through the training. Also - because he is a KGB officer, there are another 2 deductions we can make - 1) he is very patriotic (for him Soviet Russia is like Sacred Germany for Hitler, there is no better good that he can do with his life than to glorify Russia) and 2) there is 1 word that can be attributed to the KGB style of work - CONTROL His mind is incredible at system analysis, understanding where the control points are and what needs to be controlled in order for a system to work as he sees fit. After graduating from his KGB work, he went on to work with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatoly_Sobchak, an incredible man who is by all means the most influential political figure in the era of 1985-1995. Not only was he a democrat, but he was also an amazing public speaker. His leadership ability taught Putin a great deal of how to organize a political movement, how to lead people and essentially what is administration work is all about. After Sobchak had failed in his political career (he was blackmailed), the Kremlin in Moscow took notice of a young, intelligent and EXTREMELY LOYAL Putin in St. Petersburg, and gave him a job in Moscow. He worked for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavel_Borodin, the guy who managed the best property in Russia, the Kremlin. During that time, Kremlin was being totally redone, they had made repairs worth hundreds millions of dollars! At a time when the country was struggling for food.... And then the general prosecutor of Russia began a corruption investigation INSIDE Kremlin, a task which was advised by the Swiss bank managers who had been handling the money. Because http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Yeltsin had many political enemies, the investigation took on and started exposing Yeltsin's daughters and the president himself! So the family (the closed circle around the president who benefited the most, consisted of the closest friends, family members of Yeltsin and richest oligarchs of Russia) decided to appoint Putin to solve this problem (get rid of the general prosecutor, which is not an easy job). Putin made up a video where a man, who looked like the general prosecutor was shown making love to two women. At that time it was outrageous in Russia, hence when the people saw this video, general prosecutor's credibility was destroyed n an instant. So - Putin is very loyal to his masters and he is anEXCELLENT executioner. He is also the first president to understand that controlling media is everything. He once said to a top TV PR man (Sergei Dorenko) in Russia "If you don't show something on TV - that means it never happened, right?". It is also known that TO THIS DAY he takes part in editing what appears on TV about him (meaning he says what bits to show and what not to show) - he is a master of PR.
