How to fake a touch event in the system?

Which API is better: iOS Safari touch event or Firefox 4 touch event?

  • Currently, touch event API is not finalized by W3C. Since Apple leads touch device (especially multitouch device), its implementation in Safari can be de facto standard. Firefox 4 is planned to be released next month; and its touch event API is quite different from Safari http://felipe.wordpress.com/2010/08/11/multitouch-in-firefox4/ . So, without regard to market share, which API is better from developer's point of view?

    They're both crap, well, from my point of view anyway. One thing that annoys me about the Safari touch events is the lack of specification of the events. For example, in Safari many events (such as pinch and zoom) don't have independent events that are triggered and since WebKit doesn't update the DOM until the gesture is complete, you're screwed as you watch your elements become clipped and only update when everything's done; no fun :(

They look near-identical, and I think it's pointless to make judgments about Firefox's implementation before it's available in the wild. In the past, especially in the case of iOS, it's the actual implementation that matters, because in practice it deviates from the spec. In comparison to Android's complete lack of multitouch in shipping browsers, Mobile Safari is great. I wish it didn't have zombie events that you need to detect on your own, but it's pretty darn good.
