What do I do to become a computer engineer?

What does it take to become a good computer engineer? What engineers are preferred in the industry? How do I begin the process of becoming an expert in the field?

• I am a 2nd year student. After six months of studies, I see myself going nowhere. I am very confused about my career and future. I am not in a very good college. The teachers in my college believe in copying code from internet and there is nothing more than just theoretical knowledge. Kindly help me out how and what to do to become the best...   First choose a field of your interest like Programming, Networking etc. and then start from very basics in that field and reach to a expert level. If you are interested in programming then first clear your concepts of data structure because concepts are the main thing in programming. Then start solving problems efficiently by doing regular practice. You can get unlimited resources to study and practice on internet. The industry looks for engineers with strong concepts and at least command over one programming language.
