Does Google penalize you for duplicate content?

How can aggregators who duplicate content survive Google's Panda update?

  • Agregators gathers contents from other website. How would they survive if google panda sanctions duplicate content?

  • Answer:

I generally see "non-penalized content farmers" are scraping content from sites that have been penalized, are still new/lower ranking or spinning the article enough and building good links to those articles. Also some of the content farm sites have a good user base (usually these farming sites share revenue), so that's another thing to think about.

The problem is that sometimes Google crawler can't properly detect who was the first one to originally post that content (you can't judge it by posting date, because it is easy to edit and fake). In this situation Google works the same way as http://www.plagspotter.com/ does, it can detect duplicate content placed at site A and site B, it can see that it is the same content, but can't properly detect who was the one there!
