Can I autoplay a video on Vimeo site?

Why is the HTML5 video capability important when you have video sites like YouTube and Vimeo?

I know I'm missing something....but if I can just embed the iframe from youtube or vimeo on my site to display a video, what importance is the HTML5 video tag?

For YouTube, Vimeo and other websites the HTML5 video tag is important, because for the first time, their users aren't required to install a plugin like or to be able to play video. The HTML5 video tag is a standard that allows web developers to make video's playable without including a Flash/Quicktime/etc. player. They only have to include the <video> tag in their code.
