Is it possible to find the source of conversions through Google Analytics?
-
I am using Google Analytics to track conversions from events. Although I can see the amount of conversions, I am not able to figure out where these conversions are coming from (Twitter, Facebook Ads, Facebook Fan Page, Partners, Original Site, Google Adwords). Is it possible to do this? And if so, how?

Answer:
Absolutely! We just customized our dashboard to measure conversions by source, and left the template on both our blog and hacker news so that everyone who wants it can use it too. http://spinnakr.com/blog/social-media-2/2012/08/a-better-google-analytics-dashboard-for-content-marketing-how-to-use-it/

When you say "I am using GA to track conversions" do you mean that you've set up goals for your events or that you can see a count of total events in the events section under "Content"? Do you use the new version of GA (should have a BETA sign next to the logo). In any case, if you go to Content -> Event Tracking -> Categories, you can get the traffic source in two ways: - Next to the "Event Category" label (in the table header), you have a select box which you can use to break your data by a secondary slicer. Choose Medium/Source/Keyword and you will see a break down of the categories by traffic source. - Second option is to use the pivot icon (located above the table on the right) and choose to pivot the table by source or medium. You can also use advanced segmentation to get the amount of events per segment.

You can also do this by using custom reporting, map goals against referral traffic, it works and we do it ourselves. If you need to know more just drop me a line.
