What online school is best to get your life insurance from?

I'm an adult student planning on going back to school in August. What are some "real-life" things (health insurance, budgeting, etc..) I should make sure I get done before I move since I won't have my parents financial support?

  • Answer:

If you have a family (spouse, children, dog), there are numerous things you have to take care of for them. I'll assume you're on your own. Before you move, make sure you have set up a number of things online (and therefore reachable anywhere): bank accounts, loan and credit accounts, free storage... Identify an account that both you and your parents can access in case you need info from them, or they need info from you. Give them digital copies of your drivers license, social security #, and birth certificate. Although you won't have their financial support, your parents may still need information about you and they probably don't have it digitally. Make sure you have all of the credit/credit cards you need. If you need your parents or wealthy friend to cosign something, do it before you leave. Everything gets more difficult after you're gone. If you need a passport, get it now (even if you're going to school domestically, it will be great to have in case you travel.) Speaking of travel: budget and plan your travel for your vacations from school. Travel can be expensive so you don't want it to be a last minute consideration. Insurance: of course, health insurance. Make sure you know how to find an appropriate doctor (one that might be in your health plan network) near your school. And make sure you have the contact numbers for your previous doctors for your records. Also consider dental insurance. It usually doesn't cover much so you may want to have your teeth checked before you leave for school. If you have a car, you know what you have to do. However, if you have other important devices you may want to make sure you have insurance on them. If you have limited financial resources, you may not be able to easily replace a broken laptop or mass spectrometer (just kidding - they're easy to replace). Depending upon where you're living at school, make sure you get renter's insurance (assuming you're renting). It is generally inexpensive and will cover you for damage or theft, usually even when you travel. Before leaving, make sure you know your tax situation and have all of the info you need for the coming tax year. You may need this info for any financial aid/scholarship applications.
