How much do doctors who specialized in neurology, orthopedics, gynecology, and radiology get paid by both big and small hospitals?
-
Specifically for doctors having 0-3, 3-6, and 6-10 years of experience in big Indian cities? I also want to know the difference in salaries between a multi specialty hospital like Coumbia Asia/fortis/apollo and a mid sized 60 to 100 bedded hospital. What portion of the surgery costs do doctors get in big and medium sized hospitals a) if they are working full time b) if they are working as a visiting consultant?

Answer:
Thanks for A2A As you are asking for specialist I will restrict my answer to doctor post graduation Because medical is a service sector experience and skills are two prime parameter deciding salaries. 1) government sector Hardly much difference between states because of central pay commission This are joining salary Full time consultant : 60k-70k Assistant professor: 70k-80k Associate professor: 1L-1.1L Professor: 1.2-1.4 L 2) private sector Private sector in medical practice comprise of small to medium private hospital confined to particular city and corporate hospital extending in multiple cities Like Apollo, fortis etc. Salary in private sector depends on many things, its like small companies to big corporate houses. It will depend on 1) experience 2) skills 3) city 4) whether your speciality depends on other specialities like pathology radiology are largely depend on other speciality On an average fresh consultant can get 90k-1L per month. And as your experience goes up 2L to 10L month. Unlike other business where sky is limit, medical service has some limits in different speciality because medical science has limitations and so our salary have !

Thanks for A2A I will restrict my answers to income in private sector as the salary in govt setup varies from state to state which you can see on respective websites. Between 0-3 yrs of post PG experience, the doctors usually get a job as senior resident in which income for all specialties is more or less equal, the determinant being the city you are working, e.g. in Delhi they usually get around 80k. In most other cities it is between 50-60k. Between 3-6 yrs of experience, you get to become junior consultant who get a monthly salary of around 1lakh. For 6-10 years of experience, most of the hospitals give you a share of the business you bring to them. So that solely depends on the patient load of the respective department in that particular hospital. As for orthopaedics, more surgeries you perform, more will be the income. Speaking as an average, most orthopedic surgeons easily manage to earn around 3-5 lakhs per month. However if you are really good and work in an excellent hospital setup, it reaches upto 10-15 lakhs per month increasing as you add years of experience. I have less idea of other specialties but it is sure in the range of 3-5 lakhs per month when working as a consultant surgeon/physician/radiologist. Having said that, it is just a rough idea as income of a doctor also depends highly on his own set of skills, both medical and communication; the hospital setup, marketing, etc.

Thanks for A2A My answer for most part will consider only the private sector in Delhi. Immediately after completing residency an MD/MS will usually join somewhere as senior resident (SR), it might be for experience or fellowship. He will be getting around 70-75k. A resident in Delhi doing his MD/MS, gets 65k. After doing SRship, the doctor go into a private hospital, where he most likely will start from around 90k to 1 lakh. 90k is the lowest though, paid by one of the hospitals in the question (I cant take the name specifically). With 3-6 years of experience you start getting somewhere between 2-3 lakhs. Between 6-10 years, it depends upon how good you are, your contacts, etc, etc... but if you are good, you can make around 4 lakhs... 6 lakhs if u r super good...!!! After 10 years, you get paid on your name, you will be supervising junior consultants also now... sky is the limit then... If you want a cool life, government jobs are best, but you will have to stay contented with lesser pay...!!!

I Study in a government medical college and hence I will be able to answer this question from a public sector perspective. Firstly I would like to say that although Goa is a small state its spending on public health is quite significant and comparable to renowned institutions such as AIIMsâ Delhi. 0-3 years would indicate that the doctor would be a junior resident. Salaries in this category range from 43- 45k. 3-6 years would imply the doctor is a senior residentâ lecturer or assistant professor. Remuneration range from 45-70k 10yrs + would indicate the higher posts including Professor. Reminder would be 1-1.5 lacs. Persons working in a government setup are ideally discouraged from practicing in private. Hope you find this relevant:)

Look its like a neurosurgeon absorbs a whole city means u can understand in private practice how much he may earn depending on his skills 2 to 3Cardiothoracic surgeons absorb the whole city Orthopedic surgeons they r atleast now most patient load gainer in surgery Also doctor of finest surgical brach ,interventional radiology absorbs whole city This maily happen in 2 tier and 3 tier cities(where mainly doctors have their own private setups) so better and more earnings Now about 1 tier city, Ofcourse every one is gainer here too but really competitive in such cities corporate hospitals are most preferred places by middle and high class society, so increasing competition and also it depends on ur skills how u absorb the whole hospital. These things really matters when u have the query of how much u ll be paid in the private setup u r working. These decides ur monthly pays. Look now about experience High Experience + high skills = more and handsome payment High Experience + moderate skills =good and fine payment Average experience +high skills= handsome pays Average experience + moderate skills= fine payment Beginner = fine and enough payment to start with

I cannot speak for private healthcare in India. In the United States, physicians are still generally independent contractors, but in urban areas many are salaried. There are, however, performance clauses in which pay is partially based on productivity. Generally, after the first 3 years, your salary flattens. However, most young physicians signing now will make less that their older colleagues who are on a different pay scale. Insurance companies determine reimbursement for surgeons. The majority of profit associated with surgery goes to the hospital. It depends on the surgery as well. I imagine India is more of a fee for service model where pricing is more transparent. It depends... ranges from 8-12 Lakhs/year in Metros with an average 20,000 per month increase year on year. It again varies from city to city. In smaller hospitals, the doctor will be associated as an independent consultant. Whereas in corporate they are salaried. It again depends on where you are studied from.. If you have a specific question, let me know. The trend is that if you are paid Rs 1 Lakh per month, the hospital will be expecting anyware between Rs 8-9 Lakhs work from that particular doctor. The range varies between 6 to 12 times.

There is something called Professional Fee and Procedure Fee excluding the salary component i.e. fixed . Mainly it is 60 % to the clinician and 40% to the company in both the fees. But it may vary hospital to hospital. For more than 10 years of experience they nearly get 12+LPA + professional charges + procedure charges.

Like any other industry, these are closely guarded secrets. Package is linked to deliverables. You want to a lot. Some project or wanting to start recruitment?Just under stand this: if you pay a doctor 1000.00 at a big hospital, 25% to the hospital. Remaining 750.00 after taxation of close to 40%, is retained by the doctor. I. E 450.00 INR.

Thanks for A2A Well radiology & orthopedic are highly paid branches as per my knowledge. Gynecology & nuerology are the feilds that are continuously evolving in terms of specifications, super specialization & diagnostics. It depends on one's practice & specification as well to decide what they earn & pretty much it applies for every branch. In terms of money, I am not very sure but roughly around 60-80k per month, more in bigger set ups upto a lakh & still higher if you 've experience of few years.
