I am considering paralegal training. Is there good online training anywhere.

Is it possible for me to become a renowned writer considering I have no formal training in creative writing?

  • I'm a 24 year old engineer who works for a software firm. I have this gut feeling that I can be a good writer. I wish to write novels and short stories. I have tried writing before but I find it difficult to construct beautiful proses or sentences that convey my Idea or story in an artistic manner. I am thinking of going back to my high school grammar and reading more books to learn the art of writing. Is that an appropriate way to go about it? How do I ensure that I become a good writer?

Of course you can, and Quora is a great place to start. Start writing, writing, and writing. Pay attention to feedback you receive, positive and negative. Both are equally important in your growing process. Read....a lot!!! This helps you understand what others are doing and allows you to get an idea of what styles you like and are comfortable with. Expand your vocabulary. Grab a dictionary, a thesaurus or any reference material and just peruse. Get a voice recorder and use it. Sometimes we have an easier time talking out our stories, using hand gestures, body language and voice inflections. That's great, but unless you can hear that in your mind, it is tough to relate through writing. By hearing yourself, you will reignite that passion and find it much easier to convey. As you mention, take a class or revisit your studies. Positive reinforcement is always.....well, positive! Start a blog, write, listen, and then write some more. I'll bet you find your confidence soaring and your ideas pouring.

Beautiful prose comes with lots and lots and lots of practice. Seriously. Commit to 5,000 really really crappy stories to finally get a good one. Don't judge them, don't be rude to yourself and your art. If you start immediately judging your writing and comparing it to famous authors, you will most likely quit. You'll never know until you try. Don't worry about high school grammar, just simply practice. Get the book Writing Life Stories by Bill Roorbach and do all of the exercises.
