How does Google interpret location areas set in Google Places location pages?
-
As owner of a Google Places account you can provide a service area. For instance you'll serve customers in a range of 50km around your businesses. How does Google interpret this data? How will Google use this data to serve search results?
-
Answer:
Unfortunately, Google seems to not be using this data in any way currently. It will be interesting to see it incorporating it in their algorithm, though. I have always believed that two separate algorithms are a must depending on the type of business involved: one for brick and mortar stores and one for service-based businesses. The specifics of these two main groups are too different to be united under the same ranking algorithm (just a personal opinion).
