How To Find Mobile Numbers In Bangalore?

Despite of its warm climate around the year, why doesn't one find much state run AC buses operating between cities of Tamilnadu?

  • Even in routes like Chennai-Coimbatore, Chennai-Salem/Bangalore, Chennai- Trichy/Madurai where considerable numbers of middle income and above grouped passengers take bus why is state rtc not introducing any AC or premium services. Even neighboring states like Karnataka, AP and Kerala does that. With TN with it's distinguished Hot Humid climate and numbers of premium passengers why state corporation is not taking up this segment? One can find a lot of Private operators and other state RTC's operating the same in the state.

  • Answer:

As already been answered by , it's mainly because of the poor collection AC buses yield in comparison to other buses. The cost of manufacture of 1 AC bus comes to around 85 lakhs. In addition there's maintenance cost also. But the collection it makes per day is too low. This is the current state of AC buses which has lead to this situation. Thanks for the A2A.

I believe its based on the less profit  from AC Buses comparing to other one.  If you see in Tamilnadu,(mainly in  Chennai,) majority of crowd depending on public transport buses in Tamil Nadu are low class or middle class people. Others , all would have their own vehicle to commute.  This low class or middle class  usually not ready to spend spend double cost to travel in AC Buses. You will understand this, if you watch the ac buses going half empty when other same route buses are crowded even  people hanging in the steps.. :-)

A/C buses by Govt bus corporations  ply between Chennai-Pondy, Chennai-Vellore and Vellore - Hosur/Bangalore sections. Chennai-Salem, Chennai-Trichy and Chennai-Kumbakonam also have Govt A/C buses.  But I guess the no trips/buses are too low. Surely they can try in all routes.

Geographically we are accustomed to the climate, which is hot. So people do not find the need to pay extra for something the do not need. Low demand implies low market

There were quite a few AC buses with the various TNSTCs. They were AC coaches built on Ashok Leyland (AL) chassis. If I'm not wrong they were well patronised. In 2012 a rule came into force which stated that all luxury buses, which includes Ultra Deluxe and AC buses operated by TNSTC in routes over 300 km have to transferred to SETC (State Express Transport Corporation). Now SETC was never known for its maintenance and poor maintenance led people to move away from these buses. Private players also started plying Volvo buses, which were more comfortable than AL  AC bus. This is also the reason for ABT's decline (which used normal AC buses). With no profit and bad maintenance, SETC slowly scrapped these buses or converted them to non-AC buses. Government doesn't want to take risk on buying volvos which cost upwards of 1 crore. With SETC's maintenance standards it would be scrapped within a year. As a result private operators and even neighboring state STCs are having a free run with there Volvos.
