How long does it generally take to sell a decent used car on craigslist in San Francisco?

• I live in San francisco, and I need to sell my car quickly. I've never sold a car before but have to do this before the end of this month. How long does it generally take from putting it up on craigslist to getting contacts to actually selling it?

  I am interested to hear how you are getting on, and if you sold it. I have sold 2 cars (Audis) on CL and generally it has taken a couple of weeks each time. But the answer will largely depend on: Is your car in demand (i.e. - its not a Humvee) Have you priced it appropriately? My general rule is to use Kelly Blue Book to get an accurate value for private party sale, and start off by dropping $500 from that price. As they weeks go on (and depending on how desperate you get) keep dropping ... Luck - it really is like fishing sometimes. You get a whole lot of bites all at once, and then you might not hear anything for days ... I also advertise on Autotrader but - being honest - its from CL that most of the traffic comes. Also - stay away from folks calling you up asking you to pay a fee for them to help you sell your car (Longwoods is a good example). I am selling my own at the moment and not having as much interest as usual ... although this time I am selling an SUV :) Best of luck!
