I am applying for internships in business legal opening and I just recently scrapped my resume because it was not up to par. I am looking for the proper format for my resume.

Answer:
Take a look at this resume template we made specifically for intern seekers. It has key tips on formatting as well as a word copy you can download and use to make your own resume: http://www.internmatch.com/articles/intern/internship-students/resume-templates/ The most critical component of an internship resume, which I constantly remind students about, is to highlight experience that is directly relevant to the position. The idea is to demonstrate that you will be able to hit the ground running, without too much upfront investment on their end. The best way to demonstrate this is with quantifiable experience near the top of the resume. If you are applying for an event planning position, you don't need to have had a prior internship in event planning, instead you can highlight a conference you hosted on campus that over 50 students attended. Another big formatting hint is that, student resumes don't need to be chronological. Just because your most recent experience was a part-time job doing retail work (which isn't bad experience, but likely isn't the most relevant), doesn't mean that it needs to go on top of your far more relevant internship experience from the year prior. I would also highly recommend ensuring that your resume stays to one page. As a student, anything longer than one page is an overkill and will dilute the impact of your application. A great resume should be clean, easy to read, typo free, have a brief objective statement that gives you a voice, and then immediately shift gears into highlighting how you can be an asset at the office. This is a skill improved with time, so be sure to share your resume with relevant professionals and iterate with multiple versions before applying to your dream job.
