What is the largest p2p network?

What would you want in a P2P email network?

  • If one could build a network for emails which was completely p2p, what would one want to include in said network?

  • Answer:

Smtp is already a peer 2 peer network. No need to reinvent the wheel. The reason it turned the way it is because 99.9 % of Internet users don't have the skills to configure their computer to use it. Over time spam has explored and it is now virtually impossible for anyone with a normal ip to send emails to regular servers like Gmail. All these servers reject emails coming from ISP customer home IP because they usually come from viruses and bots. These IPs are provided by lists like Spamhaus. Anyone can use them to secure a mail server. If you decide not to use one of these list, you can freely send and receive emails from someone doing just like you. The first hurdle will be to configure your mail server.

It should be able to work with the current email system. That is to say we should be able to send and receive emails to current infrastructure. Otherwise it wouldn't be good enough and fail miserably.
