How To Stay Healthy?

How can a young woman stay fit and healthy in a natural, realistic way?

  • I am almost 18 years old, about to go to college in SoCal, and I don't feel that great physically. My eating habits are okay with the usual snacking while I'm studying, my sleeping patterns are a little wonky because of high school homework, and I try to take a walk 3-4 times a week for an hour or so each. I don't have a lot of time because I go from doing homework to going to rehearsals and stuff. I'm 5'7" and 125 pounds, but weight isn't my issue. I have a decent belly I want to hide and I tend to wear looser shirts for that. I feel tired a lot, and I just don't feel my best. Are there any tips/advice out there for busy students to stay fit to look healthy and feel good physically? Also, healthy snacks? I'll go for anything. c:

Here are a few easy tips, based on your wonderful description.  Southern California has such good weather that anything is possible. 1. Get a bike and ride a lot instead of driving or public transport.  This should fit well enough into your schedule, since bikes can cut through traffic.  Some trips are faster on bike. 2. Get a juicer (used or cheap from a big box store) and make lots of healthy vegetable juice mixes.  These will give you a wonderful perk. 3. Find some raw food recipes and experiment a little.  Look for things that will be tasty! 4. Do some of your homework while in a sauna.  The sauna should give your heart a work out while you work! (Caution: Don't do this if you have any sort of heart trouble, or if you know heat doesn't agree with you.) Bring lots of towels, for wiping. 5. Go running on the beach some mornings.  The extra endorphins should compensate for the time involved. 6. Spend time connecting with people who love you.

Look for paleo or vegan snacks. These are generally healthy and won't be super sugary. For work outs I'd recommend doing super sets, or variations of them that work for you: - Spend a few weeks finding out how strong you are by slowly building up to your maximum lifts (bench, shoulder press, squats, dead lifts, bent over rows, pull ups/lat pull downs). - Once you know your 1 rep max, or close enough to, start doing sets by beginning on your max, and then lowering the weight AND increasing the reps each set. So for example, do 30kg bench for 1 rep, 25kg bench for 2, 20kg for 3, 15kg for 4, etc. - If you can handle it, have as short a break in between sets as you can. I shoot for about 10 seconds - the time it takes me to take off those few kgs. - For cardio, I personally play soccer and do High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). The HIIT can be done in a few minutes, like the super sets. This is just something I have been trying lately, and it's super quick and very effective. If you don't have access to weights, body weight exercises will work just as well. Btw I'm Aussie, so I work in the metric system :P 1kg = 2.2 pounds Let me know if you have any further questions about what I mentioned.
