How does a radio transmitter work?

How does Disney's MagicBand technology work? I understand each band contains a HF radio frequency device and transmitter that allows it to be recognized but how does everything tie together on the backend?

  • Answer:

The Magic Bands have an RF-enabled chip in them that can be read when you pass it across an RF reader.      The scanner at the scanning point looks up that band to see of it's tied to an actual park guest.   The magic band replaces the park entry ticket, hotel pool key, and fastpass.    You can even make purchases with it at food and merchandise locations.   But don't be concerned about security.   Purchases require a pass ode that you setup I'm advance.   There is no actual data on the rf band, it's just a random number.  So hacking or copying the data in the rf device does nothing.
