Should I use WordPress or Adobe Muse to create my crowdfunding website?
-
I need a website for presenting a new product and crowdfunding on our own site, so outside of Kickstarter, etc. I am a non-coder and I have some budget to hire a developer to make the site robust and production ready, but I will create the design myself. I am thinking of either Wordpress or Adobe Muse. It will be a single-page product presentation site with animations as you scroll down. A bit like http://www.breezeapp.com/, but I also need a few specific advanced animations that go beyond the common basic entry/ loading animations. I have seen Wordpress builder templates like http://www.elegantthemes.com/demo/?theme=Divi, but I still think the Adobe tools would be best for custom animations. The site needs to have a crowdfunding / pre-ordering module integrated. I know there are http://www.wpmayor.com/best-crowdfunding-solutions-for-wordpress/ to integrate this in a Wordpress site, but I don't know if a Muse site will be open enough to insert third party crowdfunding modules/ pages. Another option would be to create a few custom animations in Adobe Edge Animate and insert that code into a Wordpress site. Any advice is very welcome!

Answer:
Wordpress is capable of a lot more than Adobe Muse. Muse is great for easily building informational sites but not for more interactive sites like you are describing. Wordpress with the buddypress extension could be a good place to start building your website. I would recommend consulting with a wordpress developer about the scope of your project. http://Elance.com is a great place to find someone.

Adobe Muse would be a great place to design your custom web pages should you decide you need a unique look to your site. You can add parallax scrolling, place custom animations from Adobe Edge Animate with right click options and drag and drop, and even insert snippets of custom code. I have found that Muse is best used for (re)designing pages, managing ever changing text, or for small websites. When your site moves into the e-commerce world that is when the robust Business Catalyst platform will come into play. You can start with a Business Catalyst e-commerce template or publish your Muse files as templates using one line of inserted code: {tag_pagecontent}. Business Catalyst is a CMS frame work just like WordPress, but without all the annoying never ending php files! You can edit your Business Catalyst pages in Dreamweaver using the BC plugin and that is where you can add or build modules. When you take into account all of the Adobe products that work with Muse you will see that Muse is only a design tool after a certain point. Comparing WordPress to Muse is unfair to WordPress because WordPress has a meager built in design editor in comparison. True you can build out a robust site with Muse and leverage a ton of built in modules for interactivity, but at the end of the e-commerce day Muse is a design tool... unless your crowd funding site has plugins like Facebook: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/, in which case it is as simple as right click, insert object, & paste. *For responsive web pages you may want to look into Adobe Reflow.

Either will do and as long as your funding site creates embeddable HTML components Muse should be able to handle them. But your best bet is probably a combo. Start with a Product Launch oriented WordPress theme, add your own custom Muse or Tumult Hype animations and you're ready to go. Having WordPress as a backend will help when your product launches and you start needing a full CMS for FAQs, blog updates, company info, and so on. You'll also have more flexibility and all the goodies like RSS feeds, news letter integrations, plugins etc that come with WordPress.

Well, I'm a coder and also a designer. I was invited for the beta test of Adobe Muse back in the days but did not get deep into it. But I'm very suspicious about the 'no coding needed code producer solutions'. I still shiver when hear the name of Dreamweaver. I think if you are not a coder, than do not bother with Wordpress (unless you want to learn it). Hire somebody who will install it configure it and put the theme you want. The admin section will be easy to learn. If you are a designer, design your page and let a developer turn it into a Wordpress template. And let that developer decide about her/his weapon of choice.

Adobe Muse is perfect for this kind of landing page scenario. Muse offers alternate design rather responsive so you can tailor the look of your site for each device type (desktop, tablet and mobile). For custom animations you can easily use Adobe Edge Animate exported in the OAM widget format and then activate it using the OAM scroll activation options in Muse. For pre-ordering embed the Celery Pre-Order Embed (https://www.trycelery.com) and your away. If you want to show some blog content on the site make a blog in Medium (this is my favourite) and then use the free RSS Blog widget from http://musewidgeits.com to show your latest posts. Muse is great as you can very quickly change your design (in Muse of course) if needed. Hope this helps.

Over the last few years the tools for creating platforms have improved to the point that you don't need to be a web developer to build and manage your own crowdfunding website. I work for Thrinacia which is a white label crowdfunding SaaS company that makes it easy for individuals/companies to create and run their own crowdfunding platforms that are flexible and customizable. Thrinacia Web UI is fully responsive and supports variety of mobile devices and operating systems including iOS and Android. Thrinacia offers powerful portal administration tools. The portal reports provide hourly updates and a detailed overview of campaigns. The portal settings allow campaign managers to fully customize and control all aspects of the crowdfunding websites. In addition; Thrinacia has strong management tools such as advanced campaign management, user management and campaign creator management to control crowdfunding websites and campaigns at different levels. In a general way, I believe that Wordpress should help you to add functionalities in your site (social networks, e-mail marketing online, etc) that will be useful in your goals, in a easy way. Adobe Muse has design resources to make a website; anything that no envolves design will be necessary start from zero (or study about it or find help with webdevelopers). If design is more important than functionalities fro web, use Muse. If communication is more important than design, use Wordpress. I'm not saying that is not possible to do design with Wordpress or to do webdevelopment with Muse; just each tool has your best skills for each need. We don't use Microsoft Word to do a book or encyclopedia, but Indesign yes, for instance.
