How to re-open xCode Archive?

What are the minimum hardware requirements to run Xcode 4 at a speed equivalent to Xcode 3?

  • I have a MacBook Pro purchased in September 2010, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM. XCode 3.XX runs just fine and is very responsive. XCode 4 is slow enough such that I found my workflow substantially disrupted. Specifically the time to compile & switch between editing windows in a large project feels like it has gotten much slower. It was enough of a productivity hit for me that I downgraded back to XCode 3.2.6 I'm curious if anyone can offer empirical advice on what hardware specifications make XCode 4 feel fast and responsive.

  • Answer:

I can't give precise specs, but I experienced that Xcode 4.0.2 runs smoothly on an iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM (OS X 10.6.7). I've first tested it on a 2.66 GHz / 2GB RAM iMac, and it was clearly slow as you describe.
