How to split column text to another column?

Which websites have attractive, usable, liquid, multi-column layouts for the main body text?

  • So the main body text (the part you want to read - the main article) is split between columns on the client - I am not interested in a single main column plus extra sidebars. (The reason I make this distinction is to emphasise the problem of splitting the main text between columns on the client - this is what CSS3 provides, and what simple divs do not) CSS3 will make this possible (see ), but I wondered if anything existed now.

  • Answer:

These days you should have a look at "responsive web design", which is more an approach, not a technique. It̢۪s an approach to answering the issues posed by the increasingly diverse range of screen sizes, resolutions and devices web designers have to cater for. At one end of the spectrum we have smartphones with resolutions as low as 240 pixels wide, while computer monitors 1920 pixels wide and larger are now commonplace.
