How can I know if BITS Pilani/other branches accept students who took their 12th exams from NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling)?

Please do help. I am in dire need, Hope you understand. I have explained my situation briefly below.(This will take just a couple minutes). I Did'nt perform well in 12 th standard CBSE boards, was not satisfied and decided to take a drop. In the drop year, took coaching and performed well, but after 2 months things started to change.I could not study or concentrate because of loneliness, had to study day and night daily along with 8 hrs of coaching, no social interactions and an enormous burden of expectations. Though i had a lot of passion, but i developed it only after passing class 12th(after 1st attempt).i could not explore my passion(of computer science and astrophysics) because of continuous pressure of preparation at the same time, therefore could not just study for 14-15 hrs a day without having time left for hobbies and leisure and ultimately got depressed. For a long time. Wanted to prepare well for IITs and get best possible education with like minded people, but not like this. I screwed up my board and entrance exams once again with an average score, obviously not enough for a good college. I cried every single day for a month. But slowly started to heal up, thought no matter what, i will continue to explore what made me curiosly happy and did that, gained a lot of knowledge in about 6 months and found my life's goals and purpose.Read about 26 books (and counting),learned a lot about computer science, have started learning programming through books,a lot about astrophysics and high energy physics, psychology, philosophy and want to continue to learn as much as possible. WHAT MY FAULT IS THAT I FOUND MY REAL PASSION AT THE AGE OF 18,WHEN MOST OTHERS ARE ALREADY PURSUING SINCE MANY YEARS. In my early yrs of age my passion was art and craft and music , at age 10 my passion was football, i played it for 6 years, played at national level. But at age14 i fell in love with science too,i found it very fascinating and so took up science in class 11th. But that's when everything changed. I fell in a company of not-so-good friends and wasted my entire 2 years aimlessly when i should have prepared for entrance exams. I realised that only at the end of 12th class and was very unsatisfied with what i did in those two most crucial years of my life. But now, i am in the worst possible condition. i have got admission in a 3rd tier college, where i know i wont be happy and satisfied. This time i decided to go to this college and side by side prepare for entrance exams on weekends and if whenever possible,in between weekdays too. And now i recently got this devastating news that the number of attempts for cbse boards has reduced from 7 to 2 from this year onwards and that i cannot sit for another attempt. After days of searching i found a solution that NIOS could be an option, but no,i found out that its not like that ( through a teacher who runs an institute for NIOS students specially). Firstly that NIOS does not have a lot of value and private colleges like BITS,VIT SRM etc do not even consider this board (I could be wrong about this). Secondly, that no matter how good you are as a student, you wont be given marks more that 50-55 because this board is for those students only who are below average and/or have failed in exams of cbse board and the purpose of NIOS is to make these students score enough only to clear the exams and not give them 80-90 %. So is this true to your knowledge? If so,what should i be doing? i badly want to study hard and go to BITS,as IIT is out of the question because there is a maximum 2 attempt limit. Many drop for 1 year but rarely anyone does that 2 times which i want to do. I really want to make something out of my life. WHAT WOULD YOU DO ? Thanks for reading it till the end. And Oh,I had to go anonymous. Many usually dont like anon A2As. But I hope you can understand.

Answer:
Hi, Isn't admission to BITS dependent solely on the BITSAT? Or are you asking the validity of an NIOS 12th standard certificate? If that certificate is not valid, then there would be no point of having a governmental NIOS. If you have a valid 12th passing certificate along with the mark-card, I dont see why you cannot be eligible for BITSAT or any other exam for that matter. Now, coming to your second question, do you really want to lose another year? These days, the college does not matter any more. What matters is talent. I would suggest you to continue in your college, but increase your personality and other traits. As the other answers have already told, increase your skills so much that people will "have" to recognize you. So, forget your past. What has happened, has happened. Now, concentrate fully on your future. Try to get good credentials, enroll yourself into online courses, and practice lot of coding. You must gain knowledge because knowledge is respected everywhere, and not your schooling. So, I hope you choose the best path. All the very best with your future decisions. :) Thanks for the A2A.

See I don't see taking an extra year drop as a good choice because if you don't do well in the next attempt you will be even more depressed, obsessed and will lose any charm that you have currently and I am not saying this because you will try your best or not but the problem is getting CSE in BITS is a very difficult task {especially BITS Pilani}, so chances of rejection are high. Now what to do... As you say you are reading a lot of Material on CSE, so start implementing build as many projects as you can, the only thing that will help you to become a good software engineer is programming and you will have to learn it yourself and no teacher will teach you those meaning any college you get into teaching is not of the standard we think before getting into it. On the contrary people know in the first year that one must start coding as no one will teach you how to code or fix your bugs. I am saying this because I also did B.Tech in CSE from NIT-Bhopal and the faculty literally sucks. But students who want to excel keep coding and google is your only teacher. Initially learning is slow as it takes time to fix even the smallest of bugs, but once you get a grip on any of the language, you will take less time in understanding others. So build projects and build a strong CV and try to get a descent intern, if you have gathered skill you will surely get good placements, so instead of taking drop and handling the extra pressure for one more year, I suggest you to follow Computer science with utmost sincerity, it is the only field with Endless - Oppurtunity. And play football daily for 90 mins :-). Hope this will help. Feel free to ping again if required.

NIOS certificate is legally valid and NIOS board is equivalent to any other educational board in India. No institution should reject a candidate who has met all other admission criteria based on his Nios certificate alone. But, I know it from my own experience that some private universities are reluctant to admit NIOS candidates. So I'd suggest you to go to them directly. Call them and/or e-mail your query. That way, you can be sure of it. Ah.. and one more thing.. Crack that exam called bitsat. ALL THE BEST.
