Would a drop of sweat on a capacitive touchscreen be considered a touch?

Does Capacitive Touch work if the metal is covered by material?

  • Note: This does not include touch-screens. I am trying to implement capacitive touch as described this link: http://hacknmod.com/hack/diy-capacitive-touch-made-easy/ I want to do basically the same thing as above, but cover the final product in some material. I'm thinking I would like vinyl best, but let me know if vinyl wouldn't allow the touch to work.

  • Answer:

It should be fine. Notice he has a thin layer of tape over the copper in the video, so direct contact is not required. A thicker piece of vinyl should be fine too. Worst case you may need to tweak some of the constants for the detection thresholds in the arguing sketch. Also I'd swear clear of any covering material that is conductive or has a conductive outer layer.
