I have an web application which allows friends to coordinate, plan and book adventure sports activities. Where can I reach providers to beta test my application? How can I convince them that its worth their time?

We @Konkuri made a Beta version and went online, then gave free acces to the application so that people used it and gave us plenty of advices about how to improve it. Try to get your application indexed also in the main startup listing websites helps too.

Everyone starts by pitching their app/product to potential customers and users. If you manage to impress them in a 15 seconds phrase, then you have a conversation. If you show them that your products offers values, solves a 'pain-in-the-ass' problem for them, than you'll get them interested to try the app. Is that simple. If you're not actually in the target industry of your product, than try to be. Network and befriend people from that industry and get to know as much as possible about it.
