Why am I seeing advertising on Wikipedia?

  • I recently surfed a few pages in Wikipedia and found there were several advertisement hotlinks of 'TimesDeals.com'. Is it done by Wiki, or is it because of some spam link I mistakenly clicked before?

    Wikipedia does not include advertising, and won't in the forseeable future. There are two main possibilities here: You're viewing a mirror or wrapper that adds ads Your browser or computer is infected with malware, specifically adware Make sure you're viewing wikipedia.org, and run some decent anti-virus software on your computer; it's more likely malware than a mirror.

NO. Wikipedia has not started advertizing on their pages, and will never do it in future as well. Wikimedia Foundation for its commercial interest provides its servers on rent. But these days many people are vandalizing Wikipedia to advertise their websites or other products, as anyone can edit Wikipedia. (The Wikipage shown above has been reverted to its original form ie no advt can be found now!)
