What are hedge funds? How do hedge funds make money?

Which finance career (hedge funds, private equity or investment banking) offers the most possibility for a young (22-35) person to make a lot of money (upwards of 1mm per year)?

  • Answer:

Thanks for the question. I'm not a finance coach, yet I can give you my opinion on your request. If you pick any of these careers strictly for the money, they may or may not pay off with the income your looking for. However, if you pick the one that you can see yourself doing for 5 years or more and dedicating your experiences to learning all you can about the career, ANY of them will yield you the money you want, because it's going to be based off of what you put into it. Listen, I know janitors that make 250,000 a year just because they  know their job and they know the right people.  It's your influence that will make you the money you crave, not the position. Remember, I'm talkin to you as a resilience coach, not a finance coach, so I believe you to make it in any one of them you choose. Hope this helps.

Investment banking will offer the greatest opportunity  and you normally need a good track record here before you will get an opportunity at a hedge fund or private equity.
