What are the best voice command apps for an iPhone or iPad?
-
I am looking to voice control a variety of appsânot voice to speech. Examples: open "x", close "x", play "x", read "x", search "x"âand apps could range from email, voice mail, text/chat, youtube, music, safari, etc.... Scenario: My toddler has the ipad and he's in the backseatâI'm driving. He wants to play his youtube list. I want to be able to say: open: youtube play: toddler list Scenario 2: I am working on my docked laptop (doing this now) and I want to VC my ipad to: open: pandora play: st. germain - a call comes in - I grab my earpiece (putting on my ear requires two hands) and at the same time VC my ipad to "stop".

Answer:
The iPhone has built in Voice control of calling and music listening functions http://bit.ly/ezyTLH and it works pretty well. What are you looking to control? Vocalla, Voice Lookup, SoundHound and Vlingo also provide a variety of voice control features. Google and Bing and Siri offer voice searching. Depends on what you are looking to do.

I get the sense you are interested in controlling iPad and other apps with voice commands, not dictate voice to text which is what Sridhar recommends. While there are some apps that have integrated voice commands for controlling music playback, these apps must integrate these features directly and are unlikely to provide a unified voice command feature across other apps. http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/voice-control.html There are apps that are designed to do this if you jailbreak your iPad.

is a good listener, has impressive learning AI, and was a great acquisition by but it is not a viable option for voice commands within most applications. The burden for voice commands lie on the application developers. There arehttp://goo.gl/SOxCCG available to add voice commands to most existing functions. I would suggest you to go to http://Treycent.com. You don't need to have any apps for this, you can load your favorite music by voice with Treycent. For example, if you want to play "applause by lady gaga" just say "play applause by lady gaga". Thats all you will be able to listen to her sound cloud track. You can even add and share voice bookmarks. Hope this helps
