What are the design principles of software design?

How could Contemplative Computing design principles be used in software for Scrum or other software engineering practices?

  • That is, to create designs that support less distraction, less information overload, more relaxation, creativity, and focus? I  propose this as a conceptual design challenge in a field that is both  familiar and somewhat contrary to the idea.  Scrum, for example, is  considered to be fast paced and information intensive.

  • Answer:

Scrum and other frameworks really say absolutely nothing about the design aspects of software development; they provide guidelines for building what has been designed, but not in the design itself.  Typically, in companies that I've worked at, we've tried to get as much of the initial design work completed before we assign the work to the prioritized backlog.  In this instance, you'd use your "contemplative design" practices there, before any developer even starts coding on the project (unless you need a prototype or some other high-level demo unit).
