What is the energy usage of different types of lighting / light bulbs?
-
What are the typical wattages of different types of lighting? I am looking for a good comparison of different bulb types, their wattages, and advantages, but haven't found one. Could someone provide me with a link or an overview of wattages used by different kinds of bulbs? A few examples would be: incandescent, halogen, CFL, LED, and any other. I am primary interested in looking at large scale lighting solutions that you find in schools, universities, and offices. I am assuming most of those places use the long, skinny bulbs. Are those halogen? That being said, I am curious to see an overview of other lighting, too.

Answer:
The metric you're looking to compare is lumens per watt - ie how much light output is produced for each watt of power. This metric is called efficacy - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luminous_efficacy This article also has a great table comparing most common lighting technologies.
