How did John Legend find time to perform while still working full time at Boston Consulting Group (BCG)?

I will say that at any consulting firm, this is certainly doable. A friend and colleague trained for Iron Man for months - getting up at 5am, going for a 2-hour run, taking an ice bath (for the swelling) then getting dressed and going to work. She was very regimented and disciplined and successfully ran it after many months of training. Another was working on his startup, and would take two laptops when he traveled - one for client work, and one for his startup work. He'd check out at 8pm then work till about 2am every night. Just recognize that there is a big sacrifice that you are making. You will not see friends as often, you won't have as much time for relationships, you won't sleep as much, and you probably won't be as good at your job. That's probably the biggest factor - you simply won't be as good because you're not totally committed to your work. The projects I've done best on are those where I was 100% in the game and not focused on anything else. So it's doable, but I'd expect that John Legend probably wasn't one of the best consultants at BCG. But if you're planning on being a huge star - who cares?

I don't have first-hand information about this, but what people said about this at the New York office was that he just stayed very focused and organized. Supposedly, he would come from work on Friday night and do gigs on the weekend, somehow making it all work.
