What is the pattern of new TOEFL(IBT) exam?

Now that the pattern of Common Admission Test (CAT) 2014 has been changed, what should be my expectation about the types of questions that are going to appear in the exam?

• In the previous pattern, topics like Number systems and Algebra(together) accounted for 40-50% of the Quant section and RC's in the verbal section also had same weightage. Now that the number of questions in the new pattern have been increased from 30 to 50, can i expect a sort of uniformity in questions from various topics.

• Answer:

  Since the number of questions have gone up, one can expect questions covered from all the chapters . However , weightage would still be given to topics like Geometry, Algebra, Number Systems. This time it is foolish to skip any topic in Quants or even Vocabulary in section 2 for that matter. Questions can be distributed evenly or unevenly, cant comment on that , but one has to be prepared for everything under the sun. My assumption is section 1: 30-35 Quants, 15-20 DI Section 2: 5 RCs which will together have some 15-18 questions, 4-5 sentence correction(grammar), 3-4 Para-jumbles, 3-4 Critical Reasoning, 2-3 Vocab based, 15-18 LR Note : All these are purely my assumptions. My feeling is the difficulty level might slightly be lower compared to last 2 years , so both Accuracy and speed will matter. And this change is aspirant friendly because one can switch between sections anytime during the exam and so one can maximize their scores in strong areas after clearing the cutoff in one particular section. One should also have a proper strategy chalked out before giving CAT. All in all, CAT has embraced a change which is for good. Hope it bodes well for aspirants. ATB !!!
