Any famous people on facebook that will actually chat with you?

With services like Quora and Facebook, do people still use "chat rooms"?  Does anyone have data on chat room usage?

  • Seems like the web has been evolving away from the traditional AOL or Yahoo chat rooms, but there chat rooms still exist and seem to be thriving.   A quick review seems like chat rooms are mostly used for dating and anonymity which promotes some of the seedier sides of the Internet.  Does anyone have recent data on chat room usage, in light of the competing services which are now available?

  • Answer:

http://tinychat.com is the latest buzz in chat rooms. After it went viral in 2010, it has attracted a lot of traffic but took a plunge in 2011 end. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/tinychat.com can give you a recent idea of usage. This post-launch-loss-of-virality effect pattern is typical of even one-on-one video chat services like http://airtime.com. The growth story of newer alternatives like http://zumbl.com and http://anybodyoutthere.com will be interesting to watch!
